It was great to be invited to Animex Festival where CAVE Academy delivered a workshop on ‘Creating Expressive Faces for VFX, Animation and Games’.
During the session, we delved into the anatomy of the skull, the muscles of the face, and the additional layers that make a human face what it is (a lot of fat and cartilage). Following on from this, we explored the pivotal work of Paul Ekman and had a crack at implementing FACS to create a number of poses.
We also got to judge a Wacom contest, which was good fun. The students were creating some impressive sketches and sculpts for the ‘magic fruit/vegetable’ challenge, and they did not make it easy to decide.
A big thanks to Chris Wyatt for inviting us to Animex and a shout out to Franck Dhotel too for taking such good care of us. We look forward to catching you next year 😉
