It was great to be back at Bournemouth University this weekend, where CAVE Academy delivered 3 Masterclasses for the BFX Festival.
- Lighting Fundamentals
- Introduction to Anatomy
- Photoreal Automotive Shading and Lighting
The primary theme for the Masterclasses was the importance of observation and the fact that the real-world does not translate into the digital world as magically as some would want you to think. It takes a bit of time and effort (which is the fun part) to get things looking believable.
Throughout the sessions, we studied the real-world lights, materials, cameras and lenses, bony landmarks, and then looked at workflows and systems to simplify our observations so as to replicate and creatively direct our intentions in CG.
The students were good fun and asked plenty of interesting questions to keep things lively.
I’d like to give a shoutout to Rodrigo de Deus and Eliel GuimarĂ£es for providing me with their grey/chrome reference kit, and a huge thanks to Oleg Fryazinov for the invite to deliver the sessions.
Until next time, take care Team BFX đŸ˜‰
