CAVE Academy at ESCAC

It was great to be invited to Terrassa, Catalonia, Spain, to teach at ESCAC – Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya.

During our time, CAVE Academy delivered a series of hands-on workshops on Onset Data Acquisition and Data Processing for VFX.

We kicked things off by exploring why it is important to capture a range of datasets onset before running a number of practical workshops on capturing Lighting reference, Geometry reference, Texture and Look Dev reference, and a snippet on Witness Cameras and Data Wrangling.

Here is a wee snippet from the Lighting reference capture session, where working with the kit we had available, we looked at capturing a 360 HDRI (minus the ground as this was a quick test) and a light map.

Our second session focussed on Photogrammetry and a real-world scenario that sometimes… you won’t have all the time in the world, and you won’t be in an ideal lighting environment for photogrammetry… but you still need to capture the best data you can.

The students were fantastic, so if you are looking for new and talented artists in Spain, make sure to give the folks at ESCAC a shout.

A big thanks to Lionel Estivill Calleja and Silvia Calabuig Musons for inviting CAVE to ESCAC, and until next time, adéu.
