This year, CAVE Academy will be running a workshop for the London ACM Siggraph Rainbow Conference in which we’ll be going from onset to final render to replicate a section of the historic Barbican Centre.
During the morning, we’ll be capturing onset data, including geometry, texture, material and lighting reference. Following on from this, in the afternoon we’ll be processing the data to generate photoscans, textures and HDRIs to then rebuild part of the Barbican in glorious 3D.
Along the way, we’ll discuss the importance of observation, gathering notes, photography, using calibration props and colour charts, PBR shaders, and how to go about capturing your own data for VFX using readily available kit.
