CAVE Summer 2025 Programme
Introduction
This term, we’ll be continuing our Fundamentals (FND) series of courses, our project-based course, Second Date (SCD) and kickstarting our Automotive training project (AUT). 5 courses in total which are as follows:
- Lighting Fundamentals for VFX with Brian Chinnery
- Creating Key Concept Art for VFX with Saby Menyhei
- Modelling Digi-Doubles for VFX with Christopher Antoniou
- Creature Sculpting and Topology for VFX with Jonathan Reilly
- Photoreal Automotive Shading and Lighting with Jahirul Amin
For any student enrolling on any of the above courses, you will also get access to the following courses, so we are all good to go from the offset:
Multi-Course Discount
At CAVE Academy, we do like to connect the different stages of the pipeline, so we recommend students enrol on a selection of courses to acquire a more Generalists set of skills and understanding of the VFX pipeline. However, should you wish to specialise, you are more than welcome to enrol in an individual course that appeals to you.
If you are looking to enrol on 2 or more courses, please do get in touch using the contact form at the bottom of this page, and we’ll be happy to offer you the following discount:
- a 10% discount per course for enrolling on 2 courses
- a 20% discount per course when enrolling on 3 or more courses.
Programme Schedule and Delivery
Our Summer Term for 2025 will run between 28th April 2025 to 25th July 2025.
All courses will be run simultaneously over 08 – 12 weeks (each course on a different day of the week of course) and you will be expected to complete weekly assignments to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts, techniques and workflows presented.
Our workshops will be delivered via Zoom and will last a total of 4hrs per week*. This will consist of a 2hr morning session followed by a 1hr break, and then a 2hr afternoon session.
Each week, we’ll also run a 2hr feedback session per week* via Zoom/Syncsketch to review student work and answer and student questions. For every course, we’ll also have a dedicated Discord channel allowing you to get in touch with the teaching team outside of the live sessions.
*Please note the schedule will be based on the primary tutor’s schedule and availability and is currently TEMP.
Each workshop and feedback session will be recorded and uploaded to the CAVE platform allowing you to access the recordings should you wish to revisit any of the sessions.
Here is a breakdown of the general schedule and delivery of Term 2:

Lighting Fundamentals for VFX
Lighting Fundamentals for VFX is a live/online course where we will take you through the process of capturing your own set of VFX data, creating a HDRI and a series of lightmaps from bracketed photography and then pushing the HDRI through a VFX pipeline for shot lighting.

- Course Duration: 12 weeks
- Course Schedule: 28th April 2025 – 18th July 2025
- Workshop Session: Day TBC. 4hrs a week.
- Feedback Session: Day TBC. 2hrs a week.

Photoreal Automotive Shading and Lighting
This live/online course will demonstrate how to prep, texture, light and render a photoreal vehicle under different setups.
