Maya Material Development Lighting Rig 1003

From £14.99

This light rig has been designed for material development (matdev) based on a physical setup we use here at the CAVE Academy studio . It comes with 2 calibrated light rigs created using a series of modelled lights that have been mapped with photographic HDRIs. The setup is very useful to develop materials which can then be refined during the asset look development stage.

Overview

What is included?

This setup includes 2 calibrated light rigs with a modelled cylorama for the purposes of material development.

The light rig has been designed to work primarily with a shader ball. With the setup, we’ve included the default Autodesk Maya shaderball and cloth geometry. Both have been UV’ed to be consistent for texturing purposes. A fixed and locked camera has also been set up, so you are good to go from the offset. All assets have been modelled to real-world scale where 1 Maya unit = 1cm.

Alternatively, you can add your own custom objects (ideally between 20 to 40cm in size) if you want to test your shaders in context.

A turntable, colour chart, grey card, grey and chrome sphere have also been provided.

The lighting sequence for the setup is as follows:

  • Frame 1001: Colour checker chart
  • Frame 1002: Grey card
  • Frame 1003: Grey ball
  • Frame 1004: Chrome ball
  • Frame 1005: Beauty light Rig fire
  • Frame 1006 – 1017: Tube light 360

With the setup, you will find 2 light rigs. lightRig001 is more even whereas lightRig002 has a bit more contrast.

Both setups then have a tube light that spins around the asset. This is to help review how the shader responds to light.

The scene also comes with a textured cyclorama and cutting board, along with additional props (gaffer tape, tracking markers) that can be useful for assessing reflection. These assets have been modelled to real-world scale allowing you to better assess textures and tileables.

*Please note that this setup is just the light rig itself, and does not come with the background environment asset you may spot in some renders. You can grab the environment asset here, which has been specifically created to go with this light rig:

Example Renders

Here are some examples using the matdev light rig when used in conjunction with Maya Studio Look Development and Lighting Environment 1003 (of which you can purchase seperately).
